Last December I spent 5 days in Austin Texas shooting an Oz Noy Recording session at Eric Johnson’s home recording studio. Besides the session I was hired to shoot my goal was to shoot some local Austin musicians for my Instrumenthead project. When I got to town I had no artists line up. I went out that night in hopes of meeting people and scheduling some photo shoots. I ran into Marcia Ball the first night I was in town at the Saxon Pub Holiday Party. The first person I met was Jodi Adair, a great singer from Austin, who reintroduced me to Marcia. About nine years ago I shot the last cover of Living Blues Magazine with Marcia on the cover. I have seen her perform many times over the years, but had not gotten the opportunity to reconnect with her. After a great hang that night she agreed to let me set up a photo studio at her house at the end of my trip. I shot portraits of Marcia, Chris Layton (drummer from Stevie Ray Vaughn and Double Trouble) and Roscoe Beck (longtime Bass Player for Leonard Cohen). It was a super fun day of shooting. Everyone was really cool. Check out Marcia’s website at http://www.marciaball.com
